GVRA members Mike Cassidy, Lara Mani and Carina Fearnley attended the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction's 8th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva, Switzerland, between 3-6 June 2025.
Lara gave a talk on the Ignite Stage on using creativity to communicate catastrophic risk and demonstrate how she's been using cartoons, humour and games to communicate about catastrophic volcanic risk. She also gave a speech in the Multi-Stakeholder Plenary on the uses of foresight for Disaster Risk Reduction.
GVRA Scientific Advisory Committee member Carina Fearnley also gave a talk on the Ignite Stage on the importance of early-warning systems using the example of a volcanic eruption. She also co-organised a side-event on "Equity in Action: Early Warnings for All People".
The GVRA team also attended a science-policy social event and a side meeting for GeoRiskNet - a new initiative seeking greater representation of geohazards within the UN system.
