In October, Lara Mani attended the 'Volcanology in Practice' Seminar at Niigata University, Japan. GVRA were co-convenors of the symposium that brought together volcano risk researchers and volcano observatories from around the world.
Lara gave a keynote talk on 'Are we prepared for the next big eruption?' and ran a workshop with GVRA outreach volunteer Mieke Buckley on Volcanic crisis management.
As part of the symposium, attendees visited Bandai, Azuma and Adatara volcanoes in Fukushima Prefecture to learn their eruption histories and the potential future risks they pose to local communities.
